Terms of Service

1. About these terms.

These terms govern your use of the VETTS website and app ("the platform"), provided for the Veterans English Table Tennis Society ("VETTS", "the society", est. 1984) by its committee ("the committee"). By creating an account, entering an event, or using the platform you accept these terms.

2. Eligibility.

VETTS is a society for veteran table tennis players. Ordinary membership requires a minimum age of 40 and current Table Tennis England (or equivalent national body) membership. Event entry may additionally require active VETTS membership; the committee sets eligibility rules per event.

3. Accounts and profiles.

Members may claim their pre-created profile (matched by email or membership number). You are responsible for keeping your login secure. Profiles display your playing record including ratings, rankings and event results — this is the core public purpose of the platform.

4. Events and entry.

(a) Entry is via the platform or other channels the organisers designate; your place is confirmed on receipt per the event's stated terms. (b) Entry fees are as published per event/category; unless stated otherwise, fees are payable on the day. (c) Withdrawals before the entry close date are refunded at the organiser's discretion; withdrawals after entries close are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at the committee's discretion. (d) On-the-day check-in cut-off times are published per event; players not checked in by the cut-off may be scratched. (e) Events are run under Table Tennis England laws of table tennis plus any local regulations the organiser publishes. (f) All events must be sanctioned by the committee before appearing on the public events pages.

5. Ratings and rankings.

VETTS Elo-style ratings are calculated from event results, maintained by the committee's ranking officer, and published on the platform. Published results and ratings are the society's records; correction requests go to the committee.

6. Payments.

The platform records entry-fee payments and, where enabled, membership subscriptions and other society income in the society ledger. Receipts are as issued by the committee/treasurer.

7. Acceptable use.

Do not misuse the platform: no abusive conduct toward players, organisers or officials; no misuse of organiser tools; no scraping or bulk export of member data without committee authorisation; no use of the platform to run events under the VETTS name without committee sanction.

8. Event organisers.

Organisers approved by the committee may create and manage their own events, including entries, draws, results and event-day operations, for their events only. Organisers handle entrant data within their events on the committee's behalf and must follow this policy. Committee sign-off is required for official listing.

9. Advertising and sponsorship.

Advertising on the platform is sold and managed centrally by the committee. Advertiser and enquiry data is used only for the commercial relationship.

10. Communications.

The society sends broadcast emails (news, event announcements, results) and publishes on social media. You can manage email preferences via your profile or by contacting the committee.

11. Photography and social media.

Photography at VETTS events is normal and expected; images and results may be used in society communications and social media. If you do not wish to be photographed or named in social posts, tell the event organiser in writing — the society will respect reasonable requests, while noting that event results and standings are published as the society's records.

12. Intellectual property.

Site content belongs to the society or its licensors. By submitting content (photos, posts, profiles) you grant the society a non-exclusive licence to use it for society purposes.

13. Liability.

The society organises sporting events; players take part at their own risk. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Otherwise the society's liability arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount of fees you have paid in the relevant year.

14. Changes and complaints.

The committee may update these terms; material changes are announced on the platform. Complaints go to the committee in the first instance (via the contact page); the society's constitution governs.

15. Governing law.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Last updated: September 2026. These policies are maintained by the VETTS committee and may be updated at any time.
